The Alabama Poverty Project is hosting a free event for Alabama's faith leaders that will
provide information and resources about poverty in Alabama.
The featured speaker will be Dr. Wayne Flynt, Professor Emeritus at
Auburn University and a leading expert on matters of poverty, particularly in Alabama.
“Poverty and the Alabama Faith Community” will take place at Huntingdon College in
Montgomery on June 10, 2008. The event is being conducted in partnership with the
Resource Center for Pastoral Excellence at Samford and The Paul A. Duffey Institute for
Church Leadership at Huntingdon College.
Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. The presentation begins at 10:30 a.m. Lunch
will be provided at no cost for registrants following the program. The event will take
place in Ligon Chapel on Huntingdon's Campus.
In addition to Dr. Flynt’s presentation, others will also speak to the group, providing ideas
for study, worship, and scripture studies. APP will also provide background and study
materials for participants at no cost.
Pastors and other clergy all have concerns related to poverty. They want to know how
best to address poverty, especially close to home. With this event, Alabama Poverty Project
wants to provide the kind of resources that give these leaders the opportunity to speak
knowledgably on the issues and to lead their congregations to be effective in alleviating
poverty.
Faith leaders can register by sending an email to
info@alabamapoverty.org, or by calling the APP office at
205/939-1408. Please include name, address, phone number, and
email address.
