Becky Blalock became Executive Assistant for The Alabama Poverty Project in November of 2007. A native of Ohio, but a true Southerner at heart, Becky has worked in various non-profit and higher education roles for the past 9 years.
After working at two different colleges in student activities and service learning programs, Becky moved on to working for mission institutions of the United Methodist Church. At the Bennett Center of London in London, Kentucky, Becky was the Assistant Director, responsible for supervising the ministries of the center (low income housing repair, youth center, senior care-giving, pottery studio, theater, library, craft store) and managing the program managers and volunteers.
At Moore Community House in Biloxi, Mississippi, Becky re-birthed Congregations for Children, a child advocacy program co-sponsored by the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church in Mississippi, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mississippi. She also started the Gulf Coast Child Care Resource & Referral Agency.
Through all of her positions, Becky has brought a passion for empowering people and making a real difference in the lives of the people with whom she worked. A true believer in "changing the world" Becky works to see a day when all people have the skills, tools and support necessary to be successful at being who God created them to be.
